Beijing 2008

The aluminum torch is designed in the shape of a scroll, with the top adorned with cloud motifs, a classic decorative element in Chinese art. The color red is used to signify celebration, enthusiasm, and good fortune, while the handle is covered in a thin layer of rubberized paint to provide a better grip and remind the bearer of the feel of human skin, almost like holding a friendly hand. The torch stands 72 cm tall, a product of the numbers 8 and 9, which hold significance in Chinese culture, symbolizing longevity and good luck, respectively. After traveling all over the world, I covered the vast territory of China for about 97000 km, including reaching the summit of Mount Everest using a special fuel to facilitate high-altitude burning. Unfortunately, during the relay, a destructive earthquake struck Sichuan Province, leading to a three-day halt in my journey to commemorate the victims. Beijing 2008 was a record-breaking edition: including the incredible accomplishments of Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt.
