Barcelona 1992
The torch, crafted from aluminum, plastic, and metal, features a gold and silver color scheme and an unconventional shape reminiscent of an amphora and sail, evoking the Mediterranean. The goblet echoes the design of the Gaudi-style Olympic cauldron. My journey involved a mix of land and sea travel, beginning in the ancient Greek colony of Empuries and including visits to various Spanish cities, the Canary, and Balearic Islands, before reaching the host city of Barcelona. There, I was used to ignite an arrowhead and light the Olympic cauldron, which was a very captivating moment, don’t you think? This edition of the Games was notable for the absence of boycotts and a high level of participation from numerous nations. One of the most remarkable moments was the 10,000-meter final, when Ethiopian athlete Tulu waited at the finish line for her white South African opponent Meyer: holding hands, they took a victory lap to symbolize the hope of a new Africa.
