Seoul 1988
The torch for the 1988 Winter Olympics is made up of copper, plastic, and leather, and is adorned with two dragons on the top, which represent the Chinese zodiac animal for that year and symbolize harmony between the east and west. The torch relay started from Greece and traveled through Thailand before reaching South Korea, here I moved between east and west, touching many locations. Torchbearers have included celebrities, athletes, artists, significant figures in community development, people with disabilities, children, the elderly, the religious, and even mothers with babies. The 1980s were a prominent period in history, as shown in the video of gymnast Silivas's performance. The Games had memorable victories, but they were also marred by a major doping scandal that led to the ejection of multi-time U.S. champion Johnson from the Olympic village and the forfeiture of his gold medal to compatriot Carl Lewis, who had finished second.
