Montreal 1976
The torch for these games is made of red-painted aluminum with a white logo. The fuel used to keep the torch lit during the relay was mainly made of olive oil, a nod to the ancient Greek tradition. If tradition was looked for the fuel, an innovative method was patented for the transport from Greece to Canada. After being lit in Olympia and transported to Athens, I was converted into an electrical pulse and transmitted to Canada via cable. I was then transformed back into fire using a parabolic mirror. The torch relay route passed through areas inhabited by Canada's indigenous peoples. In an exciting moment, two young people representing the French-speaking and English-speaking parts of Canada carried me toward the Olympic cauldron at the same time. The Romanian athlete Nadia Comaneci, who was very young at the time, also made an outstanding debut in this edition of the Games.
