Innsbruck 1976
This silver torch is easily recognizable due to a distinctive feature: a slender metal band located just below the Olympic emblem that resembles the famous Berg Isel ski jump. After arriving in Vienna from Greece, I was once again split into two and transported across the country for a distance of approximately 1500 km. I even made an appearance on the roof of a car, complete with a glass dome, to give as many people as possible the chance to see me. When the torch finally arrived in Innsbruck, there were two cauldrons waiting for me, a reminder that the city was hosting the Winter Games for the second time. Originally, the 1976 Games were awarded to Denver, USA, but the city rejected the assignment due to the high cost of hosting the event following a referendum. As a result, Innsbruck, which had hosted the Games 12 years earlier, was chosen as the new location for the Games.
