Melbourne 1956
Although the torch is in the time-tested classic style, the Melbourne Games were a breath of fresh air: for the first time, I had the exciting experience of burning in the southern hemisphere, what a thrill! Things were not easy, however: the athletes faced difficulties due to the changing temperatures in December, and the equestrian competitions had to be held in Stockholm due to Australia's strict import laws, and, most importantly, the world was in a critical moment filled with tension, from the Suez Canal dispute to the Russian invasion of Hungary.
